eBike Maintenance

Warning

Bicycling in general can be considered a hazardous activity even under the best of circumstances. Proper maintenance and wearing the appropriate safety gear can help reduce the risk of injury and/or death. If you are not familiar with proper electric bicycle assembly or maintenance, ZipBikes highly recommends taking your bike to a qualified bicycle mechanic familiar with electric bicycles.

ZipBike Assembly

- Your ebike will arrive mostly assembled. Only the front wheel, handlebars, and pedals need to be installed. Nevertheless, it is imperative to check all fasteners and fittings for proper tightness and adjustment before operating the bicycle. As the frame, forks, handlebars and rims (PRO model only) are manufactured from carbon fiber, it is extremely important to not over tighten their fittings. Doing so may irreparably damage the components.

- Make sure to fully charge your battery before riding the ebike for the first time.

General Tips

- Always wear a helmet.

- Keep your ebike clean.

- Be careful when washing your ebike. Do not allow electrical components to come into contact with water.

Battery Tips

- Use only the supplied charger.  Using a different make or brand of charger can be extremely dangerous, even to the point of causing a fire and/or explosion.

- For the first 3 charge cycles, keep the battery connected to the charger for at least 24 hours. Beyond this, it's only necessary to charge the battery until the charger LED glows "green".

- It is recommended to keep the battery topped up.

- Charging the battery is only recommended during normal temperatures of 32 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

- Storing the battery is only recommended during normal temperatures of 32 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

- Avoid exposing the battery to extreme heat or cold.

- Avoid charging the battery in wet or humid environments.

- If the battery seems to not fully charge, the battery may benefit from a full conditioning cycle.

"Before Every Ride" checks

- Ensure all wheels and tires are in good condition. Check all quick release levers are tight and closed down to the frame. Check the tires for proper inflation. Ensure all spokes are tight and unbroken.

- Ensure the battery is fully charged.

- Ensure the seat height is properly adjusted and the quick release lever is properly tightened and closed down.

- Inspect your chain for proper lubrication and any damaged or broken links.

- Check for no play in the bottom bracket.
